Illig was founded in 1946 by Adolf Illig, in Germany, in his home based repair shop. His reputation as an innovator in the manufacturing industry was built as Illig produced new technology after new technology for many years. In 1956 Illig created the world’s first vacuum forming machine, UA100 and in 1960 he launched the R650, the first automatic vacuum forming machine to process pre-printed material for lids and plastic product tops. Only 3 years later he released the RDM series, with high speed pressure forming technology.
Illig spread globally in the mid 1970’s and early 80’s with new plants in France and the UK. Now based in Heilbronn in Germany, Illig employs 800 staff, along with a global network of agents providing support on existing units and new sales. Illig continue to offer the widest range of products designed to manufacture thermoformers and packaging equipment. These machines are used in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, aerospace, automobile, transport, construction and packaging industries. In fact any industry that manufactures plastic moulds, including bottles, hinged materials, blisters packs, lids, trays and inserts.
Widely acclaimed Illig won the gold award for Open Mould Technology in 2012 at the Dairy Technology awards in Cologne, for their innovations in distinctive design in the dairy industry. In 2008, at the Interpack awards Illig won Best New Technology for its BF70 range of bottle formers.
