Based in Neutraubling, Germany, Krones is a world supplier and producer of machines that manufacture products for filling beverages in plastic and glass bottles or beverage cans. Founded in 1951 by Hermann Kronseder as a manufacturer of semi-automatic labellers Krones expanded into the packaging and filling industry. The company grew further through expansion and acquisition including in 1983, Anton Steinecker Maschinenfabrik, a brewery equipment business and in 2000 Sander Hansen A/S a Danish pasteurizing solutions business.
The company has two main subsidiaries, KIC Krones GmbH, providing high-tech adhesives for labels and carton packages, plus processing and operating materials and KOSME S.R.L. providing filling and packaging machines for mid-tier companies across Europe.
Krones is credited with several milestones in the packing and filling industry. In 2005 Krones became the first company to offer both dry sterilization using H202 and sterilisation with peracetic acid and in 2010 presented the new FlexWave heating system for preforms based on microwave technology for energy saving manufacturing of PET bottles.
Krones equipment is split into four main areas; plastics engineering, material flow engineering, process engineering and packing, plus filling technology.
Though focused mainly on the food and beverage sector, especially breweries and wholesalers, much of Krones equipment is used in general distribution, manufacturing, construction and production management processes. specialist industries such as cosmetics, pharmaceutical and chemical also use many of the Krones flow processes.
