VG Scientific ESCALAB MKII X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer (XPS) fitted with an Alpha 110 analyser and XR3 digital X-ray source

Originally installed in The Surface Analysis Laboratory in 1986 The ESCA Mk II was upgraded in 2005 with a Thermo Scientific Alpha 110 analyser to improve the count rate in line with modern instruments. The system is also fitted with a Thermo Scientific XR3 digital dual anode Al and Mg x-ray source and is operating well. It is being sold to make room for a new instrument in our laboratory.

The system operated extremely well until earlier this year when faults in control electronics of the spectrometer control unit and ratemeter were identified.
Since that time we have been running the system with units on loan from the manufacturer. The entire system includes: the spectrometer, vacuum pumps, gas manifold for venting to nitrogen and argon line control, desk, control pc with Thermo Scientific Avantage version 4.3 data acquisition and processing software with Windows XP and assorted spares/parts/manuals. The bake out covers are also included. This has been modified to fit with the new analyser.
