The Quadra Cherry Pickers indexing stage may position any microplate well on the same centerline. The net result is full automation for "Cherry Picking" the compound library in High Throughput Screening (HTS). A user-supplied worklist, on a disk format, supplies the source plate barcode identification, the desired well location and the volume to be transferred. This can be from 300 nanoliters to 60 microliters, utilizing Tomtec's positive displacement pipettor design. Another option goes to 200µL per tip. The destination plate may be from 1 to 3 microplates in either the 96 or 384 well format. To increase throughput and maintain flexibility in operation, up to eight (8) samples may be picked before dispensing. These eight samples may be from eight individual source plates, or up to all eight from one plate. The source plates come in and out automatically through the Quadra's stacker cassettes. Up to 100 plates can be fed in and out from one loading operation. For convenience in handling, each stacker cassette holds twenty-five (25) plates. They can be twinned to infeed fifty (50) from each side. The three destination plates reside on the Quadra shuttle.
